Djembe Drumming Triplet Beats - notes

DUM TA TA
Djembe drumming is a great way to relieve stress and get you connected. I have been playing for some time now and all I can say is that I love it. There is nothing better than sitting outside in the hot sun pounding out your favorite djembe rhythm. When you really get into a beat all else stands still and the true beauty and essence of the droning sound takes control of the body and gives you a feeling of being wild, free and primal.
If you own a drum yourself and play regularly I would like to share one of my favourite djembe rhythms with you. It is called the triplet beat and once mastered will give you a very powerfull driving sound. The three beat can be mixed into the four beat fairly easily and together they create some fantastic sounding rhythms.
To play this beat you need to be able to use both your left and your right hands equally because you have to alternate your bass notes between left and right. When you start the beat you want to hit your bass with your right hand, slap with your left and slap with your right again. Keep counting it will help you 1,2,3,1,2,3. Once you can do that cycle of right-bass \ left-slap \ right-slap you need to alternate to left-bass \ right-slap \ left-slap. When you start to get the hang of this beat whilst counting you will quickly fall into the three beat rhythm.
I made a short video if you would like to check it out, I know it is difficult to figure out a pattern from text format. The sound and video quality aren't so great but it works. =D
Enjoy and keep the beat going !

I enjoyed this very much. As a musician, I have always marvelled at the way you can turn your internal dialogue off which playing...very much like meditaion.
